Olympic Torch launches London Branch Summer Programme.

IWFS London Branch has adopted an Olympic theme for its summer programme, so what better way to launch it than with a superb dinner at The Leander Club in Henley, just before the Olympic Torch passed through?

Members enjoyed a sparkling wine reception with canapés, followed by a first class three course dinner with excellent wines, including a 1985 Chateau Larmande St Emilion Grand Cru Classé, in the Club’s private dining room with a superb view out over the River Thames.   Michael Broadbent, one of our most distinguished masters of wine, was in attendance, and for those who chose to stay overnight, there was a further treat in store.

First of all we were delighted to meet Sir Steve Redgrave and his wife, who came up to our breakfast room to join us for coffee.  From there, we had an unmatched grandstand view of the proceedings as he brought the Olympic torch across the river, and into the Club through an arch of upturned oars.

Altogether a fitting Opening Ceremony for our Olympic Programme.
