Summer Lunch at Mere

Restaurant Mere was opened in March 2017 by Monica and David Galetti, in the heart of Fitzrovia.

Mere is an elegant and contemporary restaurant, offering a relaxed yet refined dining experience. The dishes celebrate the passion and heritage of husband and wife team, Monica and David Galetti, blending classical French with South Pacific influences.

The downstairs restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere with well-spaced tables and soft lighting, accessible by stairs of lift from the buzzing upstairs bar.

For this lunch to celebrate summer the team at Mere will offer IWFS London Branch members a special four course summer menu using the best of seasonal ingredients, and four different wines paired with the food.  The following is indicative of what we can expect: 

Pea Custard, ham hock, truffle sable
Reisling Kabinett, Der Elegante, Weingut Weegmullker, Pfalz, Germany 2017 

Pan Roasted Cornish Cod, confit fennel, olives, dulse aioli sauce
Alvarinho, Contacto, Alselmo mendes, Vinho Verde, Portugal 2017 

Herdwick Lamb Cannon and sweetbread, black garlic, courgette and basil, lemon thyme
Domaine de Montcalmes, Languedoc, France, 2012 

Yorkshire Rhubarb, crème fraiche and vanilla, rhubarb compote, lime and ginger syrup
Beerenauslese, Weingut Umathum, Burgenland, Austria 2017

There will be a glass of Champagne on arrival and coffee/ tea to finish.

During the lunch there will be an opportunity to visit the Mere kitchen.
The name Mere derives from the French word for mother, and incidentally is also Monica’s mother’s name, pronounced as ‘Mary’ in Samoan.
Monica Galetti is the Chef Proprietor and previously worked alongside Michel Roux Jnr at Le Gavroche in London.    Now a household name because of her appearances on Masterchef:The Professionals and BBC2’s Amazing Hotels – Life Beyond the Lobby  . She has authored two books: Monica’s Kitchen and The Skills.   David Galetti is Proprietor and met Monica while he was the Sommelier at Le Gavroche. They married in 2004.
