Rhone Tasting Dinner

In Past Events by ashepherdiwfs

Many of you will have attended Paul Mapplebeck’s excellent vintage wine tastings at the Naval Club and also the wine tasting dinners that we have organised in the Cunliffe-Owen Room upstairs.  Now Paul has kindly agreed to present some more wines from his cellar in this popular format.  He will feature the renowned Domaine Vieux Télégraphe, Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

We will start with a tasty fresh aperitif – Zind 2017 from the Zin Humbrecht Domaine in Alsace.  Olivier Humbrecht MW is a great wine maker, and we are in for a treat.

Our first course will be:

Carpaccio of Lemon-Cured Salmon, Crab Salad, smoked mayonnaise and fine herbs.

This will be served with three white wines from the Southern Rhone, starting with 2017 Laudin Côte du Rhone Villages, and then two Châteauneuf-du-Pape:- 2017 Les Closiers, and 2014 Vieux Télégraphe blanc.

Our main course will be:

Roast Rump of Lamb, Boulangère potatoes, tender stem broccoli, rosemary and garlic juice.

This will be served with three red wines from Domaine Vieux Télégraphe – Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2013, 2010 (Parker score 97) and 2005 (Parker score 95+).  The 2010 and 2005 are reckoned among the greatest wines ever from this producer.

Our dessert will be:

Dark Chocolate Marquise, kirsch-soaked cherries and cherry ice cream.

This will be served with two Sauternes:
2009 Château Filhot – 2ème  Cru Classé
1999 Château Climens – 1er Cru Classé Barsac
(Parker score 90 and second only to Château d’Yquem).

We will finish with coffee and mints.
