If you would like to take the advantage of current circumstances to update your knowledge of wine, Jeffrey Benson is now offering some further interactive on line tuition at a more advanced level, based upon the syllabus of the WSET Level Two qualification. This is an ideal follow on for those who attended the Level One course, but will also be accessible to most who have belonged to IWFS for a while and attended a few wine dinners or tastings. I know that some were reluctant to get involved in the previous courses that we organised a few years ago, but this is a much more relaxed affair – there will be no formal examination or certificate, and we will charge only £40 to cover the cost of the WSET book that goes with it. You will find that this book is very well written and well worth reading in its own right. We will not be going through it on line chapter by chapter, but you will be able to ask as many questions as you like.
There will be four one hour sessions at 5.30pm on 8th, 10th, 15th and 17th December. You will receive the book a month or so in advance and you are recommended to study it before the on-line sessions and keep a note of any questions. The on line sessions will each concentrate on tasting a selection of three wines covering the major grapes and regions, followed by an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have on the course as a whole.
If you do not wish to participate yourself, or even if you do, why not sponsor some young (or not so young) members of your family who would like to find out more about wine. I am sure that they will enjoy it.
If you are an experienced in attending Zoom meetings, you will already know that it is easy to participate. If you are not, why not give it a try? Almost any computer or tablet can be used.
You can book on line below (you will need to be logged in with your username and password) or email firstname.lastname@example.org We hope that you will be able to take part. We need at least six participants to run this course and a maximum of eight.
Nearer the start date we send an email to those who have booked, with a link to enable them to join the meetings, and a note about Zoom meetings in general. We will also post a copy of the book that will be used, and details of the wines that you will be invited to taste during the course. You do not have to buy exactly the same wines. If you have something on hand with the same grapes and from the same part of the world, that will be fine, and a talking point for discussion during the tasting.
Please book by 30th October so as to receive the book in good time.
Bookings are closed for this event. Please contact the organiser for last-minute places.
