A tasting of wines, the property of the late Hugo Dunn-Meynell and of Tish Dunn-Meynell.
Many of you will remember Hugo Dunn-Meynell in his capacity as Chairman of the IWFS. and amongst his many activities he co-authored with Tish The Wine & Food Society Menu book.
Tish and Hugo married in 1980, Tish being a writer – as Alice Wooledge Salmon – and formerly a chef at Ma Cuisine and The Connaught Hotel. She helped Hugo in the acquisition of both young and old wines, numbers of which were sold last year, and has generously donated the bottles for tonight’s tasting.
The evening will start with Leflaives 1992 St Romain, white burgundy which is in lovely condition.
This will be followed by:
Gemello Santa Clara Valley Zinfandel 1987
Trittenheimer Apoteke auslese 1975. This sweet wine comes from the Moselle region from one of the finest vintages
Chateau de Ricaud 1970 which is in Loupiac but making wines which are indistinguishable from top Sauternes, situated on the other side of the river
2 Madeiras follow, one bottled by Averys but both have lost most of their details
Then 4 vintage ports: Ramos Pinto 1982, also Ferreira 1970, Smith Woodhouse 1983 and finally 1977 Dow which should be in splendid condition. This will be an interesting opportunity to taste some well known estates wines from excellent years.
The evening will be hosted by Chris Davenport-Jones.
A light buffet will accompany the wines.
