A comparative tasting of some of the best mature sweet wines in the world.

Château d’Yquem is considered the best – or one of the best – sweet wines anywhere. As well as d’Yquem, we shall taste mature, rich challengers from other top Sauternes and from an Alsace Grand Cru, a Tokay Aszú, a Pedro Ximenez from Jerez, a German Auslese and a Coteaux du Layon Chaume.

For fun, the five Sauternes will be tasted blind. Votes for the best wine will be taken and a ‘pleasure per pound cost’ table will be constructed afterwards.

Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese, 2005.
Albert Mann Alsace Tokay Pinot Gris Grand Cru Furstentum, 2000.
Domaine des Forges, Coteaux du Layon Chaume 1er Cru, 2011.
Disznókó Tokaji Aszú 5 puttonyos, 2005.
