So you have enjoyed an Indian takeaway in the past. Well this takes Indian dining to a whole different level. We will be dining in a private room of the renown Veeraswamy restaurant in Swallow Street. Why renown? Well, the Veeraswamy is the oldest surviving Indian restaurant in the UK and probably the first catering for “high end” Indian cuisine. Founded in 1926 by Edward Palmer, the great grandson of an English General and an Indian Mogul Princess, the classic menu aims to comfort as well as inspire. The National Geographic magazine has described it as “One of the 10 Best Destination and Speciality Restaurants in the World”. It is also the holder of a Michelin star.
The Mughal inspired private dining room décor is romantic and playful, with baccarat chandeliers, a flickering candle lit wall, rich Moghul style carpets and elegant silk curtains.
The final menu will be decided upon closer to the date but it will be three courses of the highest quality, naturally accompanied by wine (or beer if you prefer). For the main course there will be a selection of four choices served in a silver crescent to allow you to indulge yourself.
So forget the takeaway, find out what high end Indian cuisine is all about.
