We occasionally have tastings of fortified wines, but very rarely of liqueurs. We will taste two Sherries, two mature Malmsey-type Madeiras and two mature Ports. The four fruit-based liqueurs will be Apricot Brandy, Amaretto, Triple Sec and the rare Grande Paris. As well as Lustau, Henriques & Henriques and Burmester wines, there are contributions from New Zealand, Poland and England.
Some examples are among the rarest on Earth, with just one bottle ever made, and we shall drink it! They are from winners of ‘firsts’ in these classes at the National Show for wines, beers and liqueurs. Their amateur makers do not sell their products, so there are no commercial considerations, with quality (and winning the National!) the sole aim.
Brenda Lamb will provide a light supper, including puddings, after the tasting.
