One of our newer members is Antonio Metastasio. As the name implies Antonio is Italian, but more to the point he belongs to the London branch of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina and has visited some of the best Italian restaurants in the capital. Antonio has selected the Sartoria in Savile Row for this Italian dining experience. Sartoria is currently undergoing refurbishment and is re-opening on 7th December, well before the date of our meal. It also has a private dining room for 20 which we will be occupying.
The Chef, Francesco Mazzei, was born into a southern Italian family who prized the craft of artisan food. Francesco moved to London in the 1990s and spent some time working in the Dorchester under the respected Chefs Willi Elsener and Henry Brosi, an experience he describes as “a real education for me”. He then helped set up restaurants for others around the world before building his own, L’Anima, into one of London’s best Italian restaurants. Famous for accessible dishes, beautifully executed with exquisite flavour, he is a long-time champion of his home region’s specialities and has been instrumental in bringing them to a wider audience.
Francesco will design the three course meal for us and will be on hand during the evening to talk about what we have eaten. Naturally, suitable wines will accompany the meal.
