Classy Mature Wines

In Past Events by ashepherdiwfs

After a dry white, we can compare five dry reds in different styles. There is one of New Zealand’s best, an Argentinian from 2,500 to 3,000 metres altitude, a South African and two classic Clarets. These are followed by a 1980 non-dry Recioto by the great master, Tedeschi. The last three whites are all French and of increasing sweetness.

The ten wines are:

Clos du Papillon, Savenières 2003, Loire, Domaine des Baumard.

Felton Road, Pinot Noir 2004, Central Otago, New Zealand.

Colomé Estate, Malbec 2008, Valle Colchaqui, Salta, Argentina.

Château Léoville Barton 2001, Saint-Julien.

Château Lynch Bages 2002, Pauillac.

Stellenzicht Golden Triangle, Shiraz 2001, Stellenbosch.

Recioto della Valpolicella DOC, 1980, Tedeschi, Capitel Monte Fontana, Piedmonte.

Meyer-Fonné Kaefferkopf Grand Cru Gewurztraminer 2000, Alsace.

Domaine Cady Les Varennes, Coteaux du Layon St Aubin 2003, Loire.

Château Rieussec 1er Cru Sauternes, 2011.

Organised and presented by Bernard Lamb, National Guild of Wine and Beer Judges. There will be a cold buffet provided by the club.
